Olympia

Olympia Antoniadis is a Greek Australian artist working on Wurundjeri land (Melbourne). She completed her Bachelor of Visual Art at the Victorian College of Arts (2015) and a Masters in Art Therapy at La trobe University (2023).

Olympia Antoniadis delves into themes of memory, existentialism, grief, and tradition, exploring intersections between the mental, physical, and spiritual. Her work channels these ideas into a visual language that captures the quiet intensity of melancholy, beauty, and loss. Antoniadis is drawn to the symbolic resonance of objects, flowers, and materials, often referencing traditional periods such as still life, memento mori, and surrealism to give voice to these themes. A recent residency in Athens, Greece, has further shaped her practice, deepening her engagement with her Greek heritage and family history. Through her work, she examines and responds to personal and collective experiences, narratives, and traditions surrounding familial connection and mourning, engaging with the materiality and symbolism of these concepts to create layered visual narratives.

Olympia has exhibited in several individual and group shows throughout Australia, as well as internationally in Athens, Greece. In 2019, Antoniadis was runner-up for the Belle Emerging Art Prize, where her work was displayed in the Gallery of NSW, and a finalist in the EMSLA painting prize.
